Constructor University (formerly Jacobs University) is a private, state-accredited, English-language university in Bremen. We offer Bachelor, Master, and PhD programs in three schools: School of Science, School of Computer Science and Engineering, and School of Business, Social and Decision Sciences. Our principles are first-class teaching and research, international diversity, and transdisciplinary cooperation. According to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, Constructor University is among the top 25 percent out of more than 1900 universities worldwide and is ranked as the second most international university in the world. As an international university, we attract highly talented and open-minded students from all over the world. Currently, over 1,600 students from 110 nations live and study on our residential campus.

The university is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in biochemistry. The appointment may be made at the Assistant or Associate level, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Constructor University invites applications from interested candidates for the following position, to be filled ideally by December 2025:

Assistant / Associate Professor in Biochemistry (f/m/d)

(full-time, tenure, initially limited to 3 years)

Your responsibilities:

The School of Science is particularly interested in candidates who combine experimental and computational approaches in their research, ideally at the interface of biochemistry and molecular genetics. The successful candidate is expected to engage in innovative research in the fields of biochemistry, molecular genetics, and/or computational biochemistry, and to maintain a cutting-edge, externally funded research program that synergizes with existing research groups in the School of Science. A research focus on big data analytics (omics technology), modelling and digitalization as well as bioinformatics is highly attractive to complement the ongoing research activities in the field of biochemistry.

The successful candidate will conduct teaching in the fields of biochemistry and molecular genetics, including fundamental and advanced lectures and laboratories at the BSc, MSc, and PhD level. She/He will be expected to take a pivotal role in the new MSc program “Quantitative Life Science” with their research experience and via the development and implementation of innovative, pedagogically sound approaches to online, hybrid and in-person teaching and learning. This will also include the advising of students on their studies, and the supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD theses and research projects.
The university is highly supportive of junior faculty, providing both formal and informal mentoring, administrative support, as well as a flexible budget for establishing an internationally visible research group. Several opportunities exist to develop multidisciplinary research projects in collaboration with other research groups or our industrial partners and to leverage existing research facilities.

Your qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, e. g., Bioinformatics
  • Strong publication record in relevant international journals
  • Documented research activities using modern technologies applied in biochemistry and molecular genetics.
  • Experience in the acquisition of Third-Party funding
  • Experience in successful teaching in international and diverse environments, with a demonstratable interest in applying innovative teaching and learning approaches.
  • Intercultural experience and competence
  • Responsible, self-motivated person able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, the language of instruction and communication on campus
  • Ideally, you would be eligible for an ERC starting grant (assistant level) or an ERC consolidator grant (associate level).
