Geoscientific Laboratory Researcher with Coordination Responsibilities
Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen
Open Position: Geoscientific Laboratory Researcher in Terrestrial Global-Change Research
The Cluster of Excellence TERRA “Terrestrial Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World” (https://www.terra-cluster.org) is an interdisciplinary research initiative of geoscientists, biologists, and computer scientists at the Universities of Tübingen and Hohenheim and the Senckenberg Institution of Biodiversity and Earth System Research in Frankfurt, investigating how the interactions between the living and non-living worlds shape global change from single microorganisms to the globe, in the geological past, at present, and in the future. TERRA starts on January 1, 2026 and is currently funded until December 31, 2032. Together with the Department of Geosciences at the University of Tübingen we invite applications for the following position:
Geoscientific Laboratory Researcher with Coordination Responsibilities
(m/f/d; TV-L E 13, 100 %) starting 01.01.2026 until 31.12.2032
heading the Facility for Dating and Analysis of Rocks and Terrestrial Sediments (DARTS). DARTS will consolidate the extensive existing analytical capabilities for sample preparation, age dating, and advanced analysis of samples in the Geo- and Environmental Research Center (GUZ, https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/215251) at the University of Tübingen in a centralized facility and coordinate these analytical activities with those in the labs at Senckenberg. The responsibilities of the DARTS coordinator include: (1) development of scientific strategies to solve research questions on geo-biosphere interactions based on geoscientific measurements, (2) research on geo-biosphere interactions on the basis of rocks and/or terrestrial sediments, (3) process monitoring and data quality acquisition to final publication, (4) overseeing measurement performance and support of data analysis including the data management and storage, (5) coordination between the existing analytical facilities of TERRA at the University of Tuebingen and Hohenheim as well as the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research (including administrative management).
Candidates should hold a PhD or MSc in Geo- or Natural Sciences, should have experience in diverse analytical characterization methods of geomaterials, have a pro-active, well-organised work style, and be competent in interaction and communication with other researchers to work effectively in creative and diverse interdisciplinary teams. General interest in the research topics of TERRA is mandatory, experience with rock and sediment dating methods is beneficial.
We offer an excellent, interdisciplinary and dynamic research environment (https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/) in an international, lively and ambitious Geoscience Department (https://uni-tuebingen.de/de/82353) in a vibrant city (https://www.tuebingen.de/), and the possibility to contribute to scientific projects and publications.
