JUNIOR PROFESSOR W1 WITH TENURE TRACK W2 (M/F/D) IN MEMBRANE BIOLOGY
commencing as soon as possible.
The holder of the position will represent the subject of Membrane Biology in research and teaching.
We are seeking early career applicants with a strong focus on answering biological questions using innovative state-of-the-art methods.
In their research candidates should address key questions of lipid metabolism, membrane maintenance or dynamic modulation of the membrane in response to varying environmental conditions in model organisms, e.g. microbes, animals or plants. Focal points can be membrane biogenesis, identity and membrane contact sites, cellular physiology, membrane composition and fluidity and/or compartmentalization, for example.
A strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration is expected, e.g. participation in joint research projects such as the Research Training Groups “Microbial substrate conversion (MiCon)”, "Monoaminergic neuronal networks and disease (MoNNDi)” and future initiatives (e.g. environmental adaptation or bioactive compounds). The appointee will have the opportunity to use the faculty’s core facilities for structural biology, imaging, and mass spectrometry. The successful candidate is expected to secure third-party funding, contribute to grant initiatives (e.g. Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups) and teach at both undergraduate and graduate level in Biology. The position offers the possibility to participate in various PhD programs at the RUB including the International Graduate School of Biosciences (IGB) and RUB Research School.
The position will be filled with a tenure track for the professorship to W2. If the evaluation is positive, the professorship will be filled in an appropriately simplified procedure without a new announcement. Requirements
An excellent scientific qualification is required, usually proven by a PhD of outstanding quality. Evidence of special suitability for academic teaching is just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NRW.
We expect furthermore:
- strong commitment in teaching
- readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research
- willingness and ability to attract third-party funded research projects
