Specialist field of Applied Geometry

At the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor (all genders) in the field of Applied Geometry with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of October 2026.
This is a professorship regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).
The Institute of Discrete Mathematics and Geometry at TU Wien is searching for outstanding candidates to fill a tenured University Professorship in Applied Geometry, in particular (though not exclusively) in classical geometry, discrete differential geometry, computational geometry, computational algebraic geometry. Applications may include Visual Computing, Computer Graphics, Geometry Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Architectural Design, Structural Design, Computational Fabrication, and other areas of Science and Technology.
The applicant’s trend-setting scientific profile shall complement and expand on-going research activities in Applied Geometry, especially within the Center for Geometry and Computational Design (GCD) at TU Wien. We expect the successful candidate to be an international leader in Applied Geometry with excellent embedding into the global research community, the proven ability to lead an independent research team, a demonstrated ability to acquire third-party funding, and to cooperate with partners in industry.
The professorship is located at the Institute of Discrete Mathematics and Geometry at TU Wien. We anticipate a close collaboration with groups working at the Institute, as well as at the faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation or other faculties of TU Wien. Synergies with these institutes and at least the institutes represented within GCD and the experiments they are involved in are encouraged.
We expect the applicant to be strongly motivated and well qualified to substantially contribute to the teaching (in English and in German) of the bachelor and master curricula of TU Wien, to participate in the teacher training programme "Darstellende Geometrie", and to participate in the academic management of the institute and faculty.

Your profile:
- Completed PhD in the field under consideration
- Outstanding publication record in internationally recognized academic journals Teaching qualification (venia docendi) or an equivalent academic qualification
- Pedagogic and didactic qualification for academic teaching of Mathematics, in English and German (in case the candidate does not yet possess sufficient knowledge of German, we expect a commitment to acquire German skills at a level suitable for teaching, for participation in the management of the institute and faculty as well as in governing bodies of the university)
- Experience in the supervision of research projects of students and Postdocs
- International research experience relevant to the field of specialization and international visibility Experience in the acquisition, completion and management of research projects
- Ability and willingness to manage a research group
- Competence and experience in the professional promotion of young scientists
- On-site presence is expected

Classification in the pay grade A1 of the collective bargaining agreement for employees of universities and a minimum salary of EUR 92,460.20 gross annual is provided for. Furthermore, on top of the employee benefit fund, a company pension scheme will be set up for employees, depending on the duration of their employment, with the result that personnel benefits will increase. A higher salary depending on qualifications and experience is subject of appointment negotiations as well as detailed information about benefits.
