Specialist (f/m) for animal license applications

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, supported by the Federal Government of Germany and the Senate of Berlin. It is dedicated to interdisciplinary biomedical research with the aim to translate basic research findings into clinical applications. MDC researchers collaborate with Berlin based research and medical institutions as well as leading international partner institutions. The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) is a young new programme at the MDC, where researchers specifically focus on gene regulatory mechanisms in the cells of a variety of model organisms, supported by ’omics’-technologies, computational methodologies and interdisciplinary interaction. The programme will increase in size of currently 15 to 25 research groups, including platforms; and it will move in 2018 to a new research building in the center of Berlin.

Specialist for animal license applications
(in Germany)

Job description:
You will be the key person in all matters concerning animal experimentation at the BIMSB. A main responsibility will be the preparation of applications for animal experimentation licenses. These shall be prepared in close collaboration with BIMSB group leaders, their representatives and MDC animal welfare officers and in coordination with the authorities. You will monitor animal usage in line with individual project proposals and assist in the annual reporting. The position requires you to keep up to date on legal requirements in animal experimentation and communicate changes with the relevant stakeholders in a timely manner. Organising and conducting training activities for new and existing scientists will be another important component of the role.
  • PhD in Life Sciences or doctoral degree in veterinary medicine
  • Experience in working with laboratory animals (mouse, zebrafish, others) and planning of scientific projects with animal models
  • Experience in applying for animal experimentation licenses in Germany
  • Excellent German and English communication skills (in particular writing)
  • Knowledge of legal requirements on animal experimentation
  • Lab animal training according to FELASA C
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills
  • Motivation and interpersonal skills for interactions with researchers and administrative staff
  • Passion for science, self-motivation, responsible and independent project handling
Salary: E 13 TVöD/Bund
Start date: September 2017

Limitation: The initial contract will be offered for 2 years, with the option to be extended.
