Faculty Position (Open Rank) Swiss School in Translational Medicine and Entrepreneurship

The Medical Faculty of the University of Bern invites applications for a faculty position in the field of translational medicine and entrepreneurship. The position will be established at the Swiss Institute for Translation and Entre­preneurial Medicine (www.sitem-insel.ch) and will be associated with the medical faculty. The professorship will be leading a to be established group Swiss School with the goal to professionalize the indispensable interaction between basic scientists, industry, clinicians, regulators and investors through research and advanced education and training.

The successful candidate should have a scientific background in one of the following areas: medicine, economy, engineering or natural sciences. Complementary expertise in translational medicine and entrepreneurship is expected. Additional experience with basic and continuing education and training, active technology transfer, innovation promotion or coaching programs would be of significant advantage.

Within the Swiss School key focus will be on basic and advanced training centered on translation products to promote young talents for research and industry, executives as well as future entrepreneurs. The candidate is further expected to expand and strengthen application-oriented research in the area of translation and entre­preneurship in medicine and together with the participating clinics of the University hospital Bern and institutes
of the University of Bern and beyond, nationally and internationally.

Candidates should demonstrate a successful track record in the acquisition of third party funding for programs in research, education, technology transfer or coaching. Experience in professional leadership, budgeting and administration of at least a medium-sized group is essential also to become a successful member of the sitem-insel AG management.

Collaboration with other university research groups active in translational medicine and/or entrepreneurship as well as with other academic institutions, nationally and internationally are expected. In addition, the group Swiss School needs to become a vital part and a competitive player within the Swiss innovation ecosystem and beyond.

Remuneration is based on the pay and grade regulations of the Canton of Bern. The position is externally funded by sitem-insel AG. With a view towards increasing the proportion of female professors, the University of Bern specifically encourages female candidates to apply.
