HIRI Research Career Development Fellowships (f/m/d)
Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI)
Job announcement No. 62 / 2020
The Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI)
is offering for the first time
HIRI Research Career Development Fellowships (all genders)
The HIRI in Würzburg is a federally funded research institution established as a partnership between the Helmholtz Centre for Infection
Research (HZI) and the Julius-Maximilian-University of Würzburg (JMU). HIRI's mission is world-class science at the interface of RNA &
infection biology. We perform basic research into the role RNA plays in pathogens and infected hosts with the ultimate goal of
leveraging the vast potential of RNA as a diagnostic, target, and drug to combat infectious diseases. This includes the development of
new single-cell technologies as well as RNA-seq and CRISPR-based methodologies to better visualize and interrogate infection
The HIRI Research Career Development Fellowships are designed to provide support and structured guidance to excellent young
researchers with a PhD and postdoctoral experience who are in the process of establishing an individual research identity. These
fellowships should be particularly attractive to scientists in a transitional stage wanting to establish a family.
Fellows will be given the opportunity to sharpen their academic profile at the interface of RNA & infection and to launch competitive,
independent research careers. Successful applicants will receive funding for up to five years (based on progress that is mutually
agreed upon) that includes their own position, the support of a technical assistant or PhD student and an annual lump sum to cover
expenses for consumables. To optimally guide our fellows through their transition phase and prepare them for their future
responsibilities, we offer structured mentoring and coaching. Moreover, the fellows will have their own laboratory website to help to
increase their visibility. If desired it is possible to complete a habilitation.
At the HIRI, it is important to us to provide our scientists with the optimal framework for their professional and personal growth. The
HIRI offers a family-friendly and internationally open work environment, with flexible working hours, part-time options and current staff
coming from more than 15 nations. Our service-oriented administration is always there to support you with individual solutions,
including childcare and relocation.
We look forward to receiving your detailed application (Letter of motivation incl. career goal, CV without picture, publication list,
preliminary research plan, and two letters of support) preferably in one single PDF-file quoting the reference number 62/2020 by
e-mail to JobsHIRI@helmholtz-hzi.de.
Without these declarations we cannot consider or further process your application and will delete already received documents at the
end of the application period.
