Independent Research Group Leader

THE UNIVERSITY OF TÜBINGEN AND THE UNIVERSITY OF STUTTGART I AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY
The University of Tübingen and the University of Stuttgart are seeking an Independent Research Group Leader for “Tailor-Made Intelligent Polymer Materials for Pharmaceutical Applications” at the earliest opportunity.
Within the Excellence Strategy of the University of Tübingen and a collaborative effort between the Universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen, we are seeking a young, highly motivated and emerging researcher, who will take the lead in building up a new group and a competitive research program in the area of Polymers for Pharmaceutical Applications.
The focus of the group should be on novel intelligent, i.e. stimuli-responsive polymer materials with tailor-made architectures for pharmaceutical applications. The polymers should be suitable for topical and/or peroral medication, including e.g. intelligent skin and sensor applications. The goal is to develop new polymers that enable controlled drug release upon a stimulus such as pH, temperature, humidity, electric fields.
The scientific background of the young research group leader should be on polymer synthesis with a strong affinity to structure-property relationships for pharmaceutical / medical applications or on pharmaceutical technology with a strong affinity to development of polymer-based pharmaceutics. The ideal candidate should have an excellent international early-career track record (at least one year of scientific experience after the doctorate is expected) with interdisciplinary collaborations and successful third-party funding.
The research group is expected to engage actively with the existing research environment at the Universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen. In particular, the collaboration with the Chair of Structure and Properties of Polymeric Materials (Institute of Polymer Chemistry) at the University of Stuttgart and groups in Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of Tübingen, especially in Pharmaceutical Technology, is expected. The research group will closely work together with and support the Tübingen Center for Academic Drug Discovery (TüCADD) and the Cluster of Excellence “Image-Guided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies” (iFIT).
The Young Research Group Leader Position is located both at the University of Stuttgart and at the University of Tübingen: The funding includes a group leader position (TV-L E14), as well as one E13 and one 0.65 E13 position as well as running budgets. The duration of the appointment is linked to the funding period of the Excellence Strategy at the University of Tübingen (until 31/10/2025). The group will be embedded into the Chair of Structure and Properties of the Institute of Polymer Chemistry (IPOC) at the University of Stuttgart and the Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Tübingen, and will benefit from both support structures. Interested candidates may contact Prof. Dr. D. Lunter (dominique.lunter@uni-tuebingen.de) or Prof. Dr. S. Ludwigs (sabine.ludwigs@ipoc.uni-stuttgart.de) for further information.
Applications should contain a description of past and future research activities (up to three pages), a CV and publication list, and three reference letters submitted directly by the referees. Applications should be submitted in English and sent as a single file to info@ipoc.uni-stuttgart.de. The closing date for applications is 07.02.2021.
