Predoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) on Computational Modeling of Decision Making
Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung (MPIB)
The Center for Adaptive Rationality at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development,
Berlin, Germany (Director: Prof. Dr. Ralph Hertwig), seeks applicants (m/f/d) for
1 Predoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) on
Computational Modeling of Decision
(TVöD 1/2 E 13, 39 hours/week)
The position is available from April 2019 onwards, but later start dates are possible.
Candidates (m/f/d) should be interested in studying the mechanisms underlying
decision making and learning, and the computational modeling thereof.
Job description: The Center for Adaptive Rationality takes an interdisciplinary
approach to cognitive science and decision making. Candidates (m/f/d) should be
interested in using behavioral, neurocognitive, and/or computational methods to
study decision making. Expertise with any one of these methodologies is required,
but experience with computational modeling is highly recommended; experience
with EEG techniques would be beneficial but is not essential.
The successful candidate (m/f/d) will be part of the International Max Planck Research
School on Computational Methods in Psychiatry and Ageing Research
(COMP2PSYCH; https://www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de/en/research/research-schools/ imprs-comp2psych). COMP2PSYCH is an international and interdisciplinary doctoral
program of the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing
Research, with sites in London and Berlin. The training program involves seminars,
methods workshops, participation in summer schools, and collaborative supervision
of research training.
Requirements:Candidates (m/f/d) must hold, or anticipate receiving very soon as
shown in supporting documents, a master's degree, diploma or equivalent in
psychology, economics, cognitive (neuro)science, or a related field, and demonstrate
expertise in judgement and decision making and/or experimental economics. There
are no teaching obligations with this position. For further inquiries about the
position, please contact Thorsten Pachur (email@example.com) and/or
Bernhard Spitzer (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Max Planck Institute for Human Development (www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de) offers
an excellent infrastructure including support staff and equipment for conducting
experiments (e.g., behavioral laboratory, eye tracking, fMRI, EEG). It provides an
international research environment, with English being the working language of the
Center for Adaptive Rationality.
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with
disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such
qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the
number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore
explicitly encourages women to apply.
How to apply:
We offer a generous three-year contract-based position as well as research
expenses and travel funding to conferences or courses. Students will participate in
international summer schools, seminars and workshops, and have the opportunity to
conduct a research project of up to 6 months in London. Applicants (m/f/d) should
submit a cover letter describing research interests, curriculum vitae and one single
representative paper (published or working paper) as a single
PDF file with your name as the file name. In addition, two letters
of recommendation should be sent separately.
Applications should be submitted without a photo to email@example.com, Max Planck Institute for
Human Development, Lentzeallee 94, 14195 Berlin. In the correspondence,
please use "Predoctoral Researcher on
Computational Modeling" in the subject line. Applications for
the position must be submitted by January 15, 2019 to ensure
consideration. However, review of applications will continue
until the available position is filled.
