Professorship for "Engineering – special crops" (f/m/d)

We are looking to fill the position as soon as possible.
In order to strengthen our research focus "sustainable cultivation of special crops", HGU seeks to
appoint a highly qualified person with internationally recognized research achievements and a strong
practical focus in one or more fields of process engineering, automation, machine control, robotics
and autonomous machinery for the cultivation of special crops with a focus on viticulture and
horticulture (precision farming).
The professorship should develop sustainable solutions for automation and robotics in plant
cultivation as well as to contribute to alternative concepts for energy self-sufficient cultivationsystems
of special crops, also in cooperation with industry. It is expected that the candidate will deal
with practice-oriented research on various topics of process engineering and mechanization systems
in viticulture and horticulture and work on solutions for legally compliant cultivation, especially
documentation and traceability. One focus will be on the management of steep slopes and the use
of new technologies to save pesticides while taking ergonomics and occupational safety into

successful candidate will offer a range of courses (Bachelor and Master) in the fields of viticulture
and horticulture, with a teaching load of 9 hours a week. The language of instruction is both German
Applicants should hold a university degree in agricultural sciences, viticulture and oenology,
horticulture, agricultural engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related areas
and have excellent scientific achievements, proven by a doctorate, habilitation or habilitationequivalent
credits. Teaching activities are expected in horticultural and viticultural engineering.
Pedagogical aptitude, experience in teaching, successful acquisition of third-party funds and
research corresponding to the call for proposals are expected. Practical experience outside the
university is advantageous.
Interdisciplinary cooperation and active participation in the self-administration of the university as
well as in national and international organizations relevant to viticulture and horticulture are
Performance requirements and criteria of the position can be found in §§ 61 and 62 Hessisches
Hochschulgesetz (HHG). The position is permanent. When first appointed to a professorship,
employment is initially on a fixed-term contract with a time limit of three years. After the appropriate
probationary period has been completed, the candidate may be appointed to an unlimited contract.
Civil servant (Beamte) status may be possible if the legal requirements are met. Additional
requirements and prerequisites can be found in §§ 61–63, 68 and 69 HHG.
