With support of the "Qualitätspakt Lehre" TU Berlin has started a sustainable process to improve the studying and teaching conditions. For reinforcing our team we are looking for a motivated and engaged research assistant with strong interest in research and teaching in materials science, to implement innovative teaching concepts.

Working field: Regarding teaching, we offer, besides others, a bachelor course for engineering students in "Materials Science". We wish to develop an interactive teaching software for this course that allows the students to prepare and repeat the topics of the presence courses (integrated and lab course), to test their knowledge and to repeat missing knowledge. Thus, the software will guide the students deeper and deeper from level to level into materials science, similar to a computer game. The successful candidate will help us to develop the concept and to realise the program together with game developers.
The future team member shall further take over administrative, organisational and public relation tasks within the department.
The position further offers the possibility to achieve a doctoral grade. Our research comprises the characterisation of structure-property relationships on different lengthscales during mechanical loading. We focus on complex loading combinations, especially on fatigue loading in corrosive environments. In particular, we investigate the following materials groups:
bioinspired materials based on metals and ceramics
light metals, especially magnesium and titanium
other light weight construction materials, especially metal foams, metal ceramic composites
Within the research work, the department shall be represented on national and international conferences, and the results shall be published in renowned journals. The researcher is further responsible for the used machines and equipment.
As a successful candidate you should hold a university degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in materials science, mechanical engineering or equivalent disciplines
deep knowledge of the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties for one of the materials groups mentioned above
distinct interest and participation in the university didactic training programme (with the goal to achieve a certificate) and engaged participation in the regular exchange with the colleagues
didactic skills with distinct interest in digital teaching concepts
active participation as multiplicator for innovative teaching
knowledge/experience with Finite Element Modelling and laseroptic interference methods for the measurement of surface displacements (ESPI, shearography) are welcome
structured working, organisational skills and good time management
ability to work in a team, sense of responsibility and reliability
very good knowledge of German and English in writing and speaking, so that courses can be given in both languages
teaching experience and knowledge of digital teaching concepts are advantageous
