Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in » Experimental Audiology «
to begin at the earliest possible date, not later than 1 October 2022. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship will be supported by the Stifterverband für die deutsche Wissenschaft e.V. with MED-EL Elektromedizinische Geräte Ges.m.b.H, Innsbruck, as funders.
Scientific Environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Medicine. TUM School of Medicine is one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and in teaching. The professorship will be part of the Department Otolaryngology at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. The comprehensive hearing center Munich, part of the Department of Otolaryngology, is one of the major supra-regional centers in conservative, apparative and surgical treatment of hearing disorders. This position is expected to foster interactions across faculty and discipline borders, especially with the Munich School of BioEngineering and the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence.
Tasks
The research focus of the professorship is in the field of systems neurophysiology of hearing functions. Expertise with state-of-the-art audiological, psychoacoustical and neurophysiological technologies, therapies (device-based hearing rehabilitation) and methods that are able to address the physiology and pathophysiology of the inner ear and hearing pathway is desirable. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs and the promotion of young scientists. Contributions to the Elite Master Program Neuroengineering and development of training programs in the field of audiology is expected.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad, and proven ability to acquire competitive third-party funding (e.g. DFG, EU) are expected. A successful application for an advanced personal research fellowship (e.g. Heisenberg fellowship, ERC grant) is desirable. A scientific or engineering specialization in the field auf audiology is also expected.
