The
Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in » Discrete Mathematics «
to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a
tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).
Scientific environment
The professorship is part of the TUM Department of Mathematics, whose focus in research and teach-ing lies at the
interface of mathematics to science, engineering and economics. Due to an excellent and international faculty,
English spoken Master courses as well as the elite graduate program "TopMath", the department attracts outstanding
students on all levels.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint
an expert in the field of Discrete Mathematics. The successful candidate is expected to cover the fields of Combinatorial
Optimization and Algorithmic Graph Theory. Exceptional candidates of other areas of Discrete Mathematics and its applications
are, however, also encouraged to apply. The teaching responsibilities include courses in the subject area, the basic courses
offered by the department as well as courses for other academic TUM departments.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research
at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific
qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial
research experience abroad is expected.
