The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 184 fields of study, approx. 10.400 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position as soon as possible of a
University Assistant (prae doc)
at the Department of Astrophysics
Reference number: 13911
The Department of Astrophysics is looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join the ELT-Group.
The ELT will offer the astronomical community unprecedented observing capabilities. Deeper than Hubble and sharper than James-Webb. The ELT-Group is involved in three of the instrumentation projects for the ELT: MICADO, METIS, MOSAIC. As such we will have a rare opportunity to play a role in developing and preparing the future scientific trajectory of all three instruments. The group is therefore looking for a PhD student to find and investigate the feasibility of synergistic science cases that lie in the overlapping region of the observational parameter space for these three world-class instruments.
The announcement is made for three years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of three years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
The successful candidate will be member of the Vienna International School of Earth and Space Sciences VISESS (https://visess.univie.ac.at/).
